Evan Cox, M.Sc.

Evan is a Senior Principal Remediation Scientist based in Ontario with more than 25 years of experience focused on managing and directing soil and groundwater remediation projects dealing with emerging and recalcitrant contaminants.

In the development, feasibility evaluation, and application of innovative in situ remediation technologies, Evan's projects include monitored natural attenuation (MNA), enhanced in situ bioremediation (EISB), in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), and metal-catalyzed reduction of chlorinated and recalcitrant chemicals in subsurface environments.

To advance the state of the practice, Evan has pioneered the use of the MNA and EISB technologies, including bioaugmentation for remediation of chlorinated solvents in porous media and fractured bedrock. Expanding on these efforts, Evan has established the use of EISB to treat rocket fuels such as perchlorate in soil and groundwater. He directs demonstrations of ISCO using permanganate to treat chlorinated solvents in fractured bedrock groundwater, and demonstrations of zero-valent metal-catalyzed reduction of chlorinated solvents, explosives (RDX and TNT), and propulsion energetics (NDMA) in groundwater using both permeable reactive barrier (PRB) and nano scale metallic particle approaches. He works with private sector interests and government research programs such as DOD's Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP).

As part of his pioneering in situ remediation research, development, and implementation work, he has authored over 30 professional publications and articles regarding the degradation of hazardous contaminants in subsurface environments, and he has co-authored several guidance documents and educational courses on these subjects.
