Paula Hutchison, P.Eng., QPESA, QPRA

Paula is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Ontario with more than 16 years of environmental engineering experience assisting clients in Canada, the United States, and internationally.

Paula helps clients find solutions to difficult challenges related to environmental due diligence and compliance, contaminated site management, and brownfield redevelopment. Clients turn to her for guidance regarding environmental due diligence during property acquisitions and divestitures. Paula has been involved in all aspects of environmental project work, including contaminated site strategy development, site investigation and characterization, vapour intrusion assessments, remedial engineering design and implementation, litigation technical support, contract development, and construction management. She also serves as a liaison with agency and regulatory representatives and supports clients in defining and advancing toward their environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) objectives. Her career experience covers a variety of client sectors, including the legal community and the downstream oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing, and land-development industries.
As a Qualified Person for Environmental Site Assessment (QPESA) and a Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA), Paula supports clients in various aspects of the Record of Site Condition (RSC) program under Ontario Regulation 153/04, as amended. She has conducted and managed a range of projects for private- and public-sector clients and developers. Paula has also supported numerous risk assessments, many of which have been used to support the risk management, remediation, and redevelopment of brownfield properties.
To advance the state of the practice, Paula co-chairs the steering committee of Geosyntec’s Environmental Management Action Group and Geosyntec’s Joint Health and Safety Committee, and she is a Certified Executive Coach. In addition, she is an active voluntary member with the Qualified Persons Community of Ontario and a past volunteer with Professional Engineers Ontario and the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.
